Man convicted for domestic violence and assault in East Iceland

A man in East Iceland has been convicted for domestic violence against two former partners and for assaulting a fire chief who was responding to an incident involving him. The man received a ten-month suspended sentence.

In early October, the East Iceland District Court sentenced the man, in his forties, for repeated violent offenses against two women, as well as an assault on the assistant fire chief. The latter was on the scene along with paramedics to address the situation caused by the man.

He has been ordered to cover most of the prosecution costs and must pay each woman 850,000 Icelandic krónur in damages.

The man was found guilty of domestic abuse against an ex-girlfriend, to whom he applied physical violence and unlawful coercion in early 2022. Additionally, he faced repeated offenses against his current partner, which included physical assault and burglary.

In one instance involving his current partner, the man physically assaulted her in March of last year at his father’s home. In September of the same year, he attacked her at her home by slamming a door on her, injuring her in the process. Later the same day, he forcibly entered her home, throwing a kitchen chair at her. A few days later, he assaulted her again, choking her and covering her face.

During one incident where authorities were called due to the man’s violent behavior, he assaulted the assistant fire chief who was present, subsequently threatening him and his family.
