Man convicted of violence against partners and assistant fire chief in East Iceland

A man in East Iceland has been convicted of multiple incidents of violence against two former partners and an assistant fire chief. He received a ten-month suspended prison sentence from the East Iceland District Court in early October.

The man, in his forties, was found guilty of repeated acts of violence against his former girlfriend at the beginning of 2022, during which he committed physical assault and unlawful coercion. He also faced charges for ongoing violence against his current partner, who is subjected to physical abuse and home invasion by him.

In March of the previous year, he physically assaulted his current partner at his father’s home and later threatened her at her residence, resulting in her becoming trapped between a door and a post. On that same day, he forcibly entered her home, threw a kitchen stool at her, and assaulted her again a few days later by choking her and covering her face.

His violent behavior also extended to the assistant fire chief present at one of these incidents; while responders were on the scene, he threatened both the fire chief and his family. The court has ordered him to pay significant compensation to both women involved.
