Tampere University has submitted a request for investigation to the police regarding suspected violations of sanctions. The university’s communications director, Anna-Maria Maunu, confirmed this to Yle. The suspicion was published in an internal communication from the university on Wednesday.
The case involves allegations that an entity within the university may have breached sanctions regulations, as well as export regulations related to dual-use technology. Dual-use technology refers to technology that can be utilized for both civilian and military purposes. Violations of sanction regulations could entail the export of materials to another country, contrary to sanctions imposed by the European Union.
Maunu did not comment on how the alleged breaches of sanctions occurred or which country is involved in the case. She also refrained from disclosing the positions of the individual or individuals suspected, whether they are researchers or students.
According to Maunu, the suspicion arose while the university was investigating an internal matter. The university is also looking into potential violations of IT usage policies in connection with this case.
