Lapland District Court begins proceedings for alleged child sexual assault at Ainiovaara school in Ylitornio

The Lapland District Court has commenced proceedings regarding an alleged child sexual assault that occurred at a school in Ylitornio on Wednesday. The prosecution has charged a 17-year-old individual of foreign descent with child rape as a juvenile and sexual misconduct involving a child. The alleged incident took place in the restroom facilities of the Ainiovaara school center during school hours last December. The 13-year-old victim and the accused were both students at the same school. The accused has denied the allegations. Under a new law that came into effect at the beginning of this year, sexual intercourse with anyone under the age of 16 is classified as child rape. Updates on the case will follow.
