A rescue team was deployed this evening in Hveragerði due to numerous vehicles encountering difficulties in the Kömbur region. Significant ice and snow had formed, leading to many drivers being unable to proceed and causing minor accidents. Some vehicles ended up off the road.

Rescue team members, equipped with four rescue vehicles, assisted in transporting both individuals and stranded cars from the highland area. In some cases, vehicles were left in place where they had stopped.

The operation has mostly concluded. Earlier this evening, authorities announced the closure of Hellisheiði due to hazardous driving conditions. However, the eastern route has since reopened.
