The main transportation committee in Buskerud has recommended the dissolution of Brakar AS, which currently manages public transport services in the region. The company is wholly owned by the Buskerud county government and operates as a limited company.

On Tuesday afternoon, local politicians voted to initiate the process of dissolving Brakar. The proposal, backed by the Conservative Party (Høyre) and supported by the Labour Party, Progress Party, Centre Party, Industry and Business Party, Christian Democrats, and Red Party, stipulates that the county will take over all activities, employees, rights, and obligations of the company before it is dissolved.

This move aims to establish a clearer political control over the public transport services. Mari Djupvik Bråthen from the Conservative Party emphasized that the goal is to bring public transport services back under direct county governance, allowing for better prioritization and decision-making.

The Labour Party echoed this sentiment, with spokesperson Tonje Enersen stating that elected officials need to be accountable for the services provided to residents and thus should have closer involvement in the decision-making process.

The proposal will proceed to the county council, with a final decision expected on October 23.
