Northvolt faces bankruptcy risk as Skellefteå schedules press conference amid financial crisis
The debt exceeding 250 million SEK involves the six largest companies within the troubled battery manufacturer. The major components of this debt include VAT (82 million SEK), employer contributions (106 million SEK), and withheld taxes (93 million SEK). The payment is officially due on October 12, but since it falls on a public holiday, the company has until Monday to remit the funds.
Northvolt is facing a financial crisis. Following the announcement of its bankruptcy, the municipality of Skellefteå is scheduled to hold a press conference. Northvolt has also filed for bankruptcy for one of its subsidiaries due to the economic turmoil.
If the payment is not made to the tax authority on time, the company is required to file for bankruptcy; otherwise, the individuals in leadership could become personally liable for the debts.
This situation highlights the severe challenges facing Northvolt as it navigates its financial struggles.
