Abandoned car dealership in Hämeenlinna destroyed by suspected arson, no injuries reported
On Friday morning, just after five, the Kanta-Häme fire department received a report of a medium-sized building fire on Ruununmyllyntie in Hämeenlinna. The building was completely destroyed by the fire. The building in question was an abandoned car dealership, measuring 700 square meters, according to Mika Koukku, the on-call fire chief of the Kanta-Häme fire department. Koukku estimates that the fire was deliberately set. “This is an abandoned building, its doors and windows are broken, and there is no electricity or water in the building. There is no other option,” he said. By eight in the morning, the fire department had extinguished the fire and clearing work was underway in the area. Koukku estimates that the clearing work will take a few hours. There were no personal injuries caused by the fire. A danger alert was in effect early in the morning due to hazardous smoke in the area. By half past eight, the smoke no longer posed a danger according to the fire department, and the danger alert has been canceled.
