The establishment of Denmark’s hydrogen pipeline to Germany, aimed at developing green energy production, has been postponed from 2028 to 2031, according to Climate Minister Lars Aagaard. He remarked that sometimes one must face reality and make necessary adjustments.

The hydrogen pipeline is intended to ensure that Danish hydrogen production through Power to X processes can be marketed to the large German market. It will enable factories and the transportation sector to transition from fossil fuels.

Originally, the government planned for the pipeline to be operational by 2028, facilitating the use of green energy in shipping, air traffic, and steel production. The state-owned Energinet has now completed initial studies that indicate the project will take several years longer than planned, largely due to extensive environmental and safety assessments.

The project will be developed in three phases, with the last phase facing further delays. The section from the German border to Esbjerg is now expected to be ready by 2031. The pipeline from Esbjerg to Holstebro in West Jutland is anticipated to be operational by 2032, and the final section to Lille Torup in North Jutland will be completed in 2033. The situation will continue to be monitored and updated as necessary.
