Løgting to address budget bills for adjusted jobs and child support savings in Faroe Islands

The Løgting (Parliament) will today address two supplementary bills related to the proposed budget for 2025. These laws are designed to grant the government permission to implement savings measures.

One of the bills focuses on adjusted jobs. Since 2017, expenses for these roles have increased by 92 million DKK, according to the government. To achieve savings, the intention is to tighten the eligibility criteria. Individuals who have over half of their working capacity remaining will no longer qualify for adjusted jobs.

Additionally, an age limit will be set, preventing those who meet the age criteria for early retirement from receiving salary supplements for these positions. This is expected to result in savings of two million DKK next year compared to 2023. By 2026, the savings are projected to rise to six million DKK.

The second bill aims to provide the government with the opportunity to save on child support payments. Currently, the law states that those who pay support for spouses or children under 18 years receive 40 percent from the national treasury, although this does not apply to the first child.

Once the amendment is fully implemented in 2026, the annual savings are estimated at approximately 2.7 million DKK. Those paying maintenance support in 2024 can apply for the subsidy until July 1, 2025.

Last year, 206 individuals received support for maintenance payments. The parliamentary session today is scheduled for 11:00 AM.
