Icelandic president halla tómasdóttir to visit denmark with official delegation

Monday 7th October 2024 on 17:44 in Iceland

The President of Iceland, Halla Tómasdóttir, and her husband, Björn Skúlason, are set to embark on an official visit to Denmark today, kicking off in Copenhagen tomorrow. Accompanying them will be Þórdís Kolbrún Reykfjörð Gylfadóttir, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, along with an official delegation.

Traditionally, the first state visit of a new president is to Denmark. This visit marks the first occasion in which Danish royalty has invited a head of state since Frederik X ascended to the throne. The primary objective is to strengthen the historical ties between Iceland and Denmark and to further enhance the relationship between the two nations.

Tomorrow morning, the Royal Couple will welcome the presidential couple as they arrive by boat at the historic customs wharf, Toldboden, in Copenhagen. From there, the couples will proceed together in a horse-drawn carriage to a formal reception at the Amalienborg Palace.
