In the spring, the Swedish School Inspectorate initiated an ownership and management review of the then-parent company Thorengruppen due to persistent serious deficiencies at its schools. This situation posed a threat to the corporation’s ability to operate educational institutions.

Following this scrutiny, the school group underwent a change in both ownership and board of directors, taking steps to address the issues identified by the Inspectorate. Recently, the new management decided to rebrand the company, changing its name from Thorengruppen to Edukatus.

The School Inspectorate has now approved the new ownership. In its decision, the Inspectorate emphasized that the new representatives must pay “particular attention to the problems and irregularities that led to the authority’s previous supervisory decisions” and must “take measures to ensure similar irregularities do not arise again.”

The developments reflect a significant shift in the governance of the previously troubled school group, which has faced scrutiny for its management practices and educational standards.
