In North Karelia District Court on Monday, charges of homicide were read against an elderly man suspected of killing another man at a summer cottage in Kesälahti, Kitee, two years ago. According to the prosecutor, the man born in 1952 is alleged to have murdered a roughly 70-year-old man from Imatra in an unknown manner, potentially involving an air rifle.
Following the incident, it is claimed that the accused hid the body in the nearby area and spent several days at the cottage. Subsequently, he transported the deceased man’s belongings and car to the victim’s residence in Imatra. Additionally, he allegedly told an acquaintance that the man who had been at the cottage had died.
When the police began investigating the disappearance of the Imatra man in early 2023, the accused informed them that he had left the cottage together with the victim. However, by the end of the previous year, the cottage had been confirmed as the site of the man’s disappearance when his remains were discovered there.
The prosecutor is seeking a prison sentence of at least nine years for the man born in 1952, who has been in custody since December of the previous year.
