Traffic congestion reported around Lillehammer as motorcade causes delays en route to Oslo
Traffic conditions around Lillehammer are congested, with heavy traffic reported from Gardermoen traveling southward. A significant traffic jam is affecting the E16 route from Hallingdal towards Sundvollen, according to traffic operator Mette Brunæs.
The most severe congestion is occurring on the E16 heading toward Sundvollen. Brunæs remarked that predicting traffic conditions later in the evening is challenging, indicating that after two hours of dense traffic, it’s largely a matter of speculation.
As of 4:30 PM, a traffic report indicated approximately 45 minutes of delay on the R7/16 route from Hønefoss to Sandvika due to heavy traffic.
Additionally, a motorcade is causing delays. The Eastern Police District reported that there would be a motorcade traveling from Gardermoen to downtown Oslo between 4 PM and 5 PM on Sunday afternoon, advising travelers to prepare for significant traffic jams. This event is linked to the official visit of Abu Dhabi’s Crown Prince, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
As the motorcade reached Oslo, police announced that certain ramps would be temporarily closed for the duration of the event.
Brunæs advises travelers to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead and stay alert to traffic conditions. The Meteorological Institute has also cautioned drivers to exercise care on the roads, especially in Northern Norway, where rain may freeze overnight in the coming days. Slippery conditions may not be easily visible, particularly in shaded areas and elevated terrains during the morning hours.
