A new fragrance club in Helsinki, founded this year, is sparking interest among scent enthusiasts. The club meets twice a month to explore ingredients from completed fragrance products and share knowledge about the world of perfumes. Its core team consists of five members committed to spreading the joy of fragrances. According to founder Maksim Ekimovsky, no prior expertise is needed to join—just a love for scents and nature will suffice.

Ekimovsky’s aim was to unite people who are passionate about fragrances, despite his limited prior experience in the field. The club began with perfume-making workshops, and although challenging, he was familiar with the industry’s basics and had created scent prototypes. Club events are thematically organized, with a focus on seasonal fragrances. For instance, a recent gathering in late summer highlighted perfumes based on root scents of peach, cherry, and blackcurrant. Attendees often showcase their rare fragrance discoveries.

The structure of a perfume involves combining raw ingredient “notes” to create final accords. A fragrance evolves through three stages: the top notes, which are quickly perceived; the heart notes that develop within 10-15 minutes; and the base notes, which linger on the skin the longest. The scent evolves to complement the user’s skin, creating a unique impression.

Fragrance memories, according to experts, can evoke powerful emotions and transport individuals back to specific moments in time. The club reflects an international community, bringing together members from Poland, Russia, Mexico, China, and beyond, all united by their love for scents. Each person’s olfactory preferences are deeply personal, influenced by individual experiences and memories associated with different scents.
