Crowds flock to Plantagen clearance sale in Vantaa following bankruptcy announcement

A busy scene unfolded at the Plantagen store in Tammisto, Vantaa, as customers flocked to take advantage of steep discounts, some reaching up to 70% on perishable items. The retail chain in Finland announced its bankruptcy earlier this week, leading to a clearance sale that began on Saturday.

The influx of shoppers resulted in a long queue stretching from the cash registers to the outdoor sales area, extending approximately 100 meters. Among those waiting was Janne Tuovinen, a local resident and musician preparing for a tour with his band, Steve’n’Seagulls. He was looking to pick up something nice for his girlfriend during their time on the road.

Despite the lengthy wait, Tuovinen expressed no frustration about the line, enjoying the festive atmosphere of the sale.

In addition to its Finnish operations, the Norway-based Plantagen group has stores in Norway and Sweden, where restructuring processes are currently underway. The company is now owned by the Swedish investment firm Ratos, which is publicly listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange.
