Demonstrators in Copenhagen called for an end to attacks on Palestinians and Lebanon on Saturday afternoon. The march, which began at Esplanaden and concluded at Rådhuspladsen, was held to commemorate the anniversary of the Gaza conflict that erupted following Hamas’ terrorist attacks on Israel on October 7th.

Anette Thaulow, a consultant attending the demonstration, expressed her sorrow, stating, “I am here for both Jews and Palestinians. I have friends on both sides, and it is a heartbreaking day for me.” She highlighted the polarization occurring in society due to the war, emphasizing that this division has not been seen in decades. “We should all reach out to each other today and urge the Danish government to recognize that we can no longer take sides,” she asserted.

Thaulow criticized the U.S. government for its inaction, describing the situation as a “ticking bomb.” She called for the deployment of UN forces along the Gaza-Israel border to prevent further massacres in the Middle East and underscored the shared responsibility to halt violence.

Health economist Susanne Awad, also at the protest, highlighted her Lebanese roots and the ongoing attacks her family faces in Lebanon. “It’s unfair that children die daily, and no one in government speaks about it,” she stated, expressing pride in the solidarity shown by the demonstrators. Awad criticized global governments for their silence regarding the suffering of both Palestinians and Lebanese amidst the conflict.

She lamented the forgotten plight of Palestinians before October 7th, insisting on the need to acknowledge their struggles. The demonstration has garnered significant attention in Copenhagen, with police reporting traffic disruptions in the area. The event was organized by the movement Stop Annexation of Palestine.
