Border security strengthened in Denmark following incidents in Copenhagen and Stockholm
Border security measures are being strengthened in Denmark following recent incidents in Copenhagen and Stockholm, as announced by the Danish National Police in a press release.
On Wednesday, two hand grenades were detonated near the Israeli Embassy in Hellerup, while gunfire erupted close to the embassy in Stockholm. Two young Swedish nationals, who have been charged in connection with the explosions, are now facing additional charges under anti-terrorism legislation.
Peter Ekebjærg, Chief Police Inspector at the Danish National Police, expressed concern, stating, “The recent developments unfortunately confirm that the threat of terrorism against Denmark is serious.” He added that the police are closely monitoring the situation, assessing its implications for the overarching threat landscape, and implementing necessary security measures accordingly.
As part of the enhanced efforts, there will be random checks of vehicles and individuals entering Denmark from Sweden and Germany. Increased police presence will be evident, particularly at the Øresund Bridge, and additional inspections will be conducted on cars, trains, and ferries arriving from Sweden in the coming days.
Furthermore, the police forces in Southern and Northern Jutland, as well as in South Zealand and Lolland-Falster, will also maintain a heightened focus as part of the temporary border controls currently in place with Germany.
