The electricity production at the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant’s Unit 2 is expected to restart on Sunday, according to Johanna Aho, the communications manager of Teollisuuden Voima (TVO), in a statement to STT on Saturday. Olkiluoto 2 has been offline for nearly a month due to a rotor fault in the generator.

Initially, the electrical output is set to operate at a reduced capacity of 725 megawatts, significantly lower than its maximum capacity of 890 megawatts. This precautionary measure aims to minimize the risk of the newly replaced rotor also developing faults. Aho indicated that investigations into the cause of the previous rotor’s malfunction are still ongoing.

Additionally, there have been recent operational issues with the Olkiluoto 3 unit. As of Saturday, production at this unit was very close to its maximum capacity, operating at 1,500 megawatts, while its maximum output is 1,590 megawatts.
