The Tietopöllö Prize for children’s and youth non-fiction literature has been awarded this year to author and journalist Jani Kaaro. Presented annually by the Association of Finnish Non-fiction Writers, the Tietopöllö Prize recognizes individuals or groups for their long-standing and outstanding contributions to non-fiction works aimed at children and young readers. The award carries a monetary value of €8,000.

Kaaro has authored several non-fiction books for children, often exploring themes related to nature and space. His latest book, “Mistä minut on tehty?” (translated: “What Am I Made Of?”), which discusses genetics, was published in August.

According to the award committee, Kaaro’s writing invites children to ponder life alongside him, tackling challenging topics in a straightforward manner. The prize was presented on Saturday at the Turku Book Fair.
