Americans are flocking to Denmark for their vacations, and there are several reasons why. What may be everyday life for Danes is worth a transatlantic flight for American tourists. In 2023, American tourists had almost a million registered overnight stays in Denmark, twice as many as in 2014. This number is expected to grow even higher in 2024.

Travelers from the United States are clear about their reasons for visiting Denmark. Karmi Soder from San Francisco, praised the warm hospitality of the Danish people and the local cuisine. She enjoyed traditional Danish open-faced sandwiches, known as “smørrebrød,” in various flavors such as salmon, chicken salad, pate, and a vegetarian version with mushrooms.

Wade and Laurie Jacobsen from Pennsylvania were impressed with Denmark’s consistent ranking in the top three of the world’s happiest countries. They also noted the country’s education system, particularly the bilingual abilities of the Danish people. The Jacobsens appreciated that Danes would quickly switch to speaking English upon realizing they were speaking to Americans.

Steve Conte from Florida appreciated Danish baked goods. His girlfriend is Danish, and she had spoken highly of Danish bakeries. Friends from countries like Holland and Germany had also recommended Denmark to him.

Zach Deasey from Philadelphia was particularly interested in the food. He looked forward to a meal at Noma, a renowned restaurant in Copenhagen, along with visiting museums and exploring the architecture. Deasey’s parents had lived in Brussels, and his mother described Copenhagen as the most beautiful city she had ever visited.

In conclusion, Denmark’s welcoming atmosphere, delicious cuisine, high happiness rankings, and impressive bilingual skills are attracting more American tourists each year.
