The Municipality of Tórshavn plans to contact the Lívdin congregation in Hoyvík to clarify the conditions for parking spaces and to install signage indicating which parking spots are public and which are specifically reserved for the congregation.
This statement comes from Heðin Mortensen, the mayor, in a press release.
He refutes the conclusion of the Municipal Inspection Authority that the municipality is granting illegal support to the congregation if it does not inform citizens that all members of the public can use the parking spaces along the main road where the congregation is located.
According to Mortensen, it is indeed the municipality’s intention for the parking spaces to be available to all citizens. Therefore, there is nothing illegal about this, he asserts.
The Municipal Inspection Authority pointed out in its conclusion that the congregation’s administration had allegedly claimed ownership of the parking areas.
The municipality disagrees with this assertion. Mortensen highlights that half of the parking spaces are situated in municipal areas designated for road use.
