Experts warn Faroe Islands must prepare for large-scale cyberattacks following Klaksvík Municipality incidents
Experts warn that the Faroe Islands must prepare for large-scale cyberattacks similar to those recently executed against Klaksvík Municipality. Eyðun E. Jacobsen, an advisor for the IT company Klintra, and Birgir av Steinum, the head of IT at the national level, discussed the topic during a recent seminar focusing on IT security.
Last year, the government introduced a cybersecurity plan outlining eight strategic goals to enhance digital safety. A key priority within this plan is the establishment of a cybersecurity law, which is expected to be presented in parliament during the current session.
However, Jacobsen cautions that waiting for authorities to act may take too long, potentially exposing systems to risks.
Birgir av Steinum emphasized that legislation alone will not prevent cyberattacks. Instead, immediate action is required to implement other critical goals within the cybersecurity framework.
