Individual apprehended by Southeastern Finland Border Guard for illegal border crossing in Parikkala

On Wednesday afternoon, the Southeastern Finland Border Guard apprehended an individual suspected of violating border regulations in Parikkala, South Karelia. The individual crossed the border between Finland and Russia illegally and was detained near the boundary line. It has been reported that the person is seeking asylum.

After crossing the border, the individual approached a local resident, who then contacted the Southeastern Finland Border Guard’s headquarters. Additionally, the Border Guard had detected the unauthorized border crossing through its own surveillance systems.
