The potential for penalties regarding security breaches varies significantly between private and public entities. This issue, previously highlighted, has gained urgency as the time has come to update data protection legislation, and this should be prioritized.

This statement comes from Bjarni Kárason Petersen, the Minister of the Interior, in light of recent discussions following a cyberattack on Klaksvik Municipality two weeks ago.

During a midday news briefing, Tóri Højgaard, the director of the Data Protection Agency, mentioned the differences in consequences for security violations in private versus public and municipal sectors.
