Oslo Red Cross Homework Help program features 110 volunteers assisting youth aged 13 to 25 with their schoolwork. The initiative offers help across all subjects, provides free meals, and makes both physical textbooks and digital resources available. The program aims to support at-risk youth in building a successful future by inspiring educational pursuits, job opportunities, networking, volunteering, and participation in recreational activities. Additionally, the Red Cross has launched a Digital Homework Help service, a national free resource for middle and high school students seeking academic assistance, and is currently recruiting fully digital volunteers nationwide.

Krister Vikedal, a volunteer at the Oslo Red Cross Homework Help, is passionate about sharing his knowledge. He finds motivation in helping students grasp their subjects and takes joy in witnessing their moments of understanding. For over two decades, the Red Cross has provided in-person tutoring at several locations throughout Oslo, including Majorstua, Grorud, Mortensrud, and the city center. They cater to the unique needs of students facing challenges in their education and create an environment for academic support and social interaction.

Vikedal began volunteering shortly before summer 2021 and encourages others to join the initiative. The Red Cross receives between 85 and 200 inquiries daily for their services, which include live communication and document sharing in a digital space. Solberg, the program’s director, emphasizes the importance of volunteers in meeting this growing demand, noting that approximately 583 students have received assistance in 2024 alone. The Red Cross is keen on expanding its reach by recruiting volunteers from across the country, making help accessible to students everywhere.
