Individuals receiving maintenance support will no longer receive funds from the national treasury.

The government plans to cut this support as part of its cost-saving measures.

Currently, the law states that those providing maintenance payments for spouses or children under 18 receive 40 percent of the amount from the national treasury. This support is only available for the payments that exceed the standard annual fee for one child.

The standard child benefit for this year is 1,162 kr.

For those who are paying child support for three children, the monthly payment totals 3,486 kr. As a result, they will receive support amounting to 40 percent of the fee for two children, which equates to 930 kr. per month.

Once the change is fully implemented in 2026, the expected annual savings will amount to approximately 2.7 million kr.

Those who pay maintenance support in 2024 can apply for the aid until July 1, 2025.

Last year, 206 individuals received this support, down from 213 in 2022 and 220 in 2021.
