Last week, Niels Juel Arge, the director of Strandferðslan, stated that the national theater planned to be built at the eastern dock would hinder Smyril from maintaining its schedule. Hanus Mikkelsen, director of Tórshavn’s port, also emphasized that while Smyril and Norrøna will dock at Skansabryggjan in the future, there will still be chaos in the harbor area if the national theater is located at the eastern dock.

This prompted Tórbjørn Jacobsen, the mayor of Runavíkar municipality, to once again offer his community as a potential host for the theater over the weekend.

However, in a letter published on Monday, Heðin Mortensen, the mayor of Tórshavn, asserted that the city will uphold its end of the agreement and ensure the theater has a suitable location, whether at Bursatanga or elsewhere in the capital.

Back in April, Mortensen had previously stated that the national theater would not be relocated and would remain at the eastern dock in Tórshavn, following a unanimous decision made by the city council two years ago regarding its location.

Despite the renewed discussion about where to site the theater, Sirið Stenberg, the Minister of Culture, has only referred to the city council’s decision. She acknowledged the discourse surrounding the theater’s location and the expected disorder at the eastern dock, but remains hopeful that this issue will be resolved in the future, particularly as it may alleviate potential congestion caused by Smyril’s docking in Tórshavn.
