A strike involving 120 members of Afl, who work for the municipality of Hornafjörður, has been called off following a successful resolution of a dispute over wages. The strike, which was set to begin on Wednesday, was avoided after agreements were reached ahead of the weekend.

Afl had advocated for several employee rights, including the ability for staff to utilize sick leave for caring for ill children, ensuring that preschool employees would retain their clothing allowances, and securing payments for cleaning staff in sports facilities following events. According to Afl’s official website, the agreements state that employees who started before September 1 will maintain these rights, while newly hired staff will not be granted the same entitlements.

Union members are now expected to approve a new wage agreement with the municipalities, which includes a retroactive salary increase effective from April 1.
