Halldór Auðar Svansson resigns as chairperson of Pirate Party in Iceland

Halldór Auðar Svansson, the vice-chairman of the Pirate Party in Iceland, has stepped down as the party’s chairperson just under a month after being elected. His resignation follows the party’s annual meeting held on September 7, where he was appointed to the position, succeeding Atli Stefán Yngvason.

In an announcement from the Pirate Party’s executive board, it was revealed that Þórhildur Elínardóttir Magnúsdóttir will take over as chairperson. Halldór will remain a member of the executive board. The decision to expand the board from three to five members was also approved during the meeting.

Prior to the election, there were notable tensions within the party, contributing to the resignation of Atli Þór Fanndal, who was the former communications manager for the parliamentary group.

Halldór Auðar Svansson could not be reached for comment regarding his resignation.
