Pre-school child dies in tragic quad bike accident in Finland, police investigate possible traffic safety endangerment

A child of pre-school age tragically died in a quad bike accident in Suomussalmi, Finland. The police received a distress call on Wednesday evening shortly after seven o’clock about an accident in which a child was trapped under a toppled quad bike. Despite attempts at resuscitation, the child had already died when the police arrived at the scene.

Upon investigation, it was revealed that the mother of the family had been driving the quad bike, registered as a tractor, with her two children, aged five and nine, onboard. For reasons currently unknown, the quad bike tipped over onto its side, trapping one of the children underneath with fatal consequences. It was noted that none of the passengers were wearing protective helmets at the time of the accident.

The accident occurred on the site of an old sports field. The police and the traffic accident investigation board are currently investigating the causes that led to the accident. The case is being investigated as endangerment of traffic safety, manslaughter, and a death investigation. As of now, the police have no further comments on the incident.
