Cold weather grips Finland with temperatures dropping nationwide

A significant shift towards colder weather has been observed across the country. Last night experienced low temperatures nationwide, with West Lapland recording a lows of -7.6 degrees Celsius and Kauhajoki Airport registering -2.9 degrees Celsius at 8 AM. Inland areas also experienced frost overnight, according to Petteri Pyykkö, a meteorologist at the Finnish Meteorological Institute.

On Sunday, temperatures in southern and central Finland are expected to range from 9 to 12 degrees Celsius, while the northern regions will see temperatures between 3 and 7 degrees. The day is mainly clear, but isolated rain showers may occur in various parts of the country. In Utsjoki and Ivalo, a warning for poor driving conditions due to sleet is in effect until noon. According to weather service Foreca, some areas in northern Finland woke up to snowy conditions; Inari’s observation station recorded a snow depth of nine centimeters Sunday morning.

Frost is also possible in the south. Meteorologist Petteri Pyykkö indicates that the weather will remain similar next week. Monday is expected to be largely sunny and dry across the country, with temperatures hovering around 10 degrees in the south and slightly cooler conditions in the north. Snowfall may occur in the Käsivarsi region on Tuesday.

The Finnish Meteorological Institute warns that frost could also reach southern parts of the country during the night between Monday and Tuesday.
