Memorial event to commemorate 30th anniversary of MV Estonia disaster in Stockholm

On September 28, 1994, the tragic sinking of the MV Estonia claimed the lives of 852 individuals, including 501 Swedish nationals. On the 30th anniversary of the disaster, a memorial event will take place on Saturday at the Estonia Monument located on Djurgården in Stockholm.

Among the speakers at the ceremony will be King Carl XVI Gustaf, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, and Speaker of the Riksdag Andreas Norlén. The Royal Swedish Navy Band will perform throughout the event, honoring the memory of those lost.

The memorial will be broadcast live on SVT1 starting at 2:45 PM. This event marks three decades since the Estonia disaster, one of the deadliest maritime tragedies in European history.
