On Thursday morning, Kay Robin Sørensen took his dog for a walk in the neighborhood of Melbu in Nordland when he spotted an owl lying outside his house, a location he frequents daily. The owl remained motionless, prompting Kay Robin to investigate further after completing his morning walk.

He returned to find the owl still unmoved, now beset by a couple of crows that were pecking at it. Recognizing its vulnerability, Kay Robin decided to save it. Having never seen an owl in the area before, he went home to retrieve some equipment for the rescue. His initial attempt to use a cardboard box failed, so he opted for a cat carrier instead. To his surprise, the owl did not resist and seemed to understand it was being helped.

Kay Robin transported the hawk owl to Love Vet, a veterinarian clinic on the opposite side of Hadseløya in Stokmarknes. Upon arrival, veterinarian Greta Kavaliauskaite remarked that this was the first owl they had received, having previously only treated an eagle. She noted that the owl appeared confused, with one eye moving erratically, but there were no broken wings, indicating that it likely suffered a concussion from a collision.

As the day progressed, the owl grew more alert and aware of its surroundings. The veterinarian informed Kay Robin that he could release the owl that afternoon. Accordingly, he returned to Melbu to ensure it was set free on the same side of the island. Excited by the experience, he brought his children along to witness the release, capturing the moment on video. Ultimately, the story concluded happily, with the owl flying off successfully.
