Antti Pekola, a long-time activist within the National Coalition Party, has resigned from the party and all political positions he held. This announcement was made by the National Coalition Party of Satakunta on their Facebook page.

Pekola recently urged adherence to a biblical command regarding the death penalty for homosexuals in a text message published in the local newspaper Satakunnan Kansan. This statement has sparked widespread condemnation. Jarkko Stenfors, the chairman of Satakunta’s National Coalition Party, expressed in a letter to the editor of the same publication that Pekola’s comments deeply shock the party community and are completely unacceptable, violating the party’s principles.

The backlash against Pekola’s remarks has been significant. For instance, the Bishop of Turku, Mari Leppänen, labeled the comments inappropriate and expressed her sadness and shock over them.
