TVO resumes production at Olkiluoto 2 unit in Finland with reduced capacity

Teollisuuden Voima (TVO) has announced that the production at its Olkiluoto 2 unit, which was damaged in September, will continue in October at a lower output. Electricity generation was halted in mid-September due to rising humidity detected in the turbine generator. The cause of the issue was identified as a fault in the rotor of the water-cooled generator.

TVO later confirmed that electricity production would resume on October 6. Initially, the unit will operate at a reduced capacity of 725 megawatts, compared to its full capacity of 890 megawatts. The power reduction is implemented to mitigate the risk of rotor failure, as the reason for the damage remains unclear. These output limitations are expected to last for several months.

The rotor currently being installed at OL2 is the last available spare part in TVO’s inventory.
