Klaksvik faces major cybersecurity breach exposing sensitive data

The city of Klaksvik has faced a significant cybersecurity incident after hackers broke into the municipal IT systems on Sunday, potentially exposing sensitive personal data.

Typically, in such cases, cybercriminals inform the targeted organization that they have disabled its systems and subsequently demand a ransom to restore access. Reports indicate that these ransom demands can reach millions.

As of now, the municipality has not received any ransom requests. Klaksvik’s mayor, Karl Johansen, confirmed that the cybersecurity measures in place were inadequate to prevent this breach.
