Attendo initiates change negotiations affecting 400 employees in Pirkanmaa and Satakunta

Attendo has announced the initiation of change negotiations that will affect approximately 400 employees, with a potential workforce reduction of up to 145 positions. The company operates 33 care homes in Pirkanmaa and Satakunta, providing around-the-clock accommodation and communal living for the elderly.

Heidi Noukka, regional manager for Attendo in Western Finland, stated that the placements of elderly individuals in care services have significantly slowed in welfare areas, despite available space in care homes and sufficient staff. Attendo indicates there is a demand for care services, as many elderly individuals with multiple or memory-related illnesses are unable to access care homes, often remaining in home care or hospital wards. However, welfare areas have reportedly delayed their purchases of care services.

As a result, Attendo has decided to commence change negotiations for production and economic reasons. Previously, the company announced negotiations concerning two facilities in Säkylä and Harjavalla, attributed to a decline in the number of residents. The company aims to offer affected staff positions at other Attendo facilities in the region.

The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) highlights that family members are increasingly bearing significant responsibility, as welfare areas are tightening criteria for home care services even as the population ages and the number of individuals with memory disorders grows.
