Police discontinue investigation into allegations involving journalists in Northeast Iceland

The police in Northeast Iceland have discontinued their investigation into allegations of drugging, unauthorized access to information from a mobile phone, and dissemination of sexual content, in which six journalists were treated as defendants. However, Páll Steingrímsson, captain of the fishing company Samherji, stated that the matter is far from resolved.

Despite the police’s decision to end their three-year investigation, which concluded that a prosecution was unlikely, Páll expressed his dissatisfaction, claiming that he has not received the justice he believes he deserves. He accused the journalists of deceit and impeding the investigation on his Facebook page, asserting that the case is still ongoing and that the decision to close the investigation is likely to be appealed to the state prosecutor.

Páll highlighted the ongoing distress faced by him and his family due to the situation, stating that they have endured experiences he would not wish upon his worst enemies. He criticized the police for allowing what he described as systematic deception to influence their findings, noting that he and his family have not found the justice they sought. The investigation’s closure, according to Páll, does not signify the end of the legal battle.
