Brynjar Joensen Creed faces new sexual harassment charges involving eight girls in Iceland

Brynjar Joensen Creed has been charged with sexual harassment against eight additional girls, all aged between 11 and 14 at the time of the alleged offenses. Currently serving a seven-year prison sentence, Brynjar previously received a six-year sentence for crimes against five girls.

The new charges were filed by the District Attorney, indicating that his harassment primarily occurred through private messages on Snapchat. Allegations suggest that Brynjar engaged in sexual conversations and sent multiple explicit images, including pictures of male genitalia and of himself engaging in sexual acts. Furthermore, he reportedly requested some of the girls to send him sexual images of themselves.

According to the charges, Brynjar’s offenses took place during the winter of 2020 to 2021, with his arrest coming in the autumn of 2021 as part of a police investigation into his actions. The initial case led to charges of sexual offenses against five elementary school-aged girls, prompting further investigations that resulted in the recent indictment.

In May 2022, Brynjar was sentenced to six years in prison, which was later increased to seven years by the Landsréttur (National Court) due to the severity of the crimes. Although part of the charges was appealed to the Supreme Court, his conviction remained upheld, albeit with a reclassification of some offenses. Initially convicted of rape, the Supreme Court categorized those crimes as sexual harassment instead.

The changing dynamics of children’s online interactions and their vulnerability to such behaviors have been highlighted in the court’s remarks, emphasizing the need for legal adjustments to better address digital sexual offenses.
