The weather heading into the weekend is expected to be autumn-like and rainy, according to Yle meteorologist Anne Borgström. On Thursday, rainfall has been scattered, but by the afternoon, rain areas are spreading more widely across southern and eastern Finland. New rain will reach Southwest Finland from the south during the evening, with widespread precipitation expected across almost the entire country on Friday.

In Varsinais-Suomi and Uusimaa, localized rainfall may exceed 30 millimeters. A second area of rain will move over Southern Finland in the evening. Meanwhile, Northern Lapland will remain mostly dry. Temperatures on Friday will hover around 15 degrees Celsius in Southern and Central Finland, while rain-affected areas may see closer to 10 degrees. In Lapland, temperatures will be even lower.

Additionally, winds will pick up, with strong gusts expected in Southern Finland. The winds are forecasted to diminish on Saturday.

As the weekend approaches, cooler air will begin to flow from the northwest, leading to a drop in temperatures across the country and signaling the end of the warm nights. Frost could occur as far south as southern regions overnight between Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday’s daytime temperatures are generally around 10 degrees, with colder conditions in Northern Finland. Rainfall will decrease throughout Saturday, but scattered showers will still persist, particularly in the south where heavy downpours may occur. Central Finland and Lapland are likely to see only minimal precipitation. Sunday is expected to be mostly dry, but daytime temperatures will remain around 10 degrees.
