Man charged with negligent manslaughter after fatal collision near Tranbjerg, Denmark

A 35-year-old man, under the influence of nitrous oxide and driving without a license, was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle last night near Tranbjerg, south of Aarhus. He was reportedly traveling at approximately 114 kilometers per hour in an area where the speed limit is 80 kilometers per hour. This information emerged during a preliminary hearing at the District Court in Aarhus.

The man faces charges of negligent manslaughter, driving without a license, and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. This afternoon, he is scheduled to appear in absentia during the hearing. He sustained injuries in the crash, which resulted in the deaths of three individuals, and he remains hospitalized, though he is no longer in intensive care.

In the collision, the 35-year-old struck another car carrying five elderly passengers; three of them were killed, while the remaining two are hospitalized. One of the injured sustained seven broken ribs, and the other has a fractured vertebra. The accident occurred on a straight, unlit road in dry conditions with good visibility. Balloons and nitrous oxide canisters were found in the accused’s vehicle.

Due to the ongoing investigation and the preliminary nature of the proceedings, the judge has imposed a ban on naming the individuals involved. This measure was taken to protect the accused’s interests, despite objections from the press present at the hearing.

The car driven by the accused was reported stolen, specifically an Audi. He was arrested at 11:03 PM and complained of pain and breathing difficulties, prompting the need for an ambulance.
