Quick-thinking cyclist prevents potential disaster at Finnish shopping center fire
A potentially dangerous fire broke out on Wednesday evening at the Kaijonharju shopping center in Oulu, Finland. A construction waste container located on the side of a building had been set on fire.
The fire could have potentially spread from the waste container to the adjacent building, becoming a significant threat to the structure. However, the blaze was prevented from evolving into a building fire.
A family cycling past the scene noticed the fire. The father fetched a fire extinguisher from a nearby pizzeria and was able to control the flames before the arrival of the fire brigade. The fire was quickly extinguished once the fire department arrived at the scene.
The location of the fire incident is a former health center in Kaijonharju, which now houses an after-school club among other things. Earlier on Wednesday evening, about 150 meters away from the fire incident, a small area of land was also burned. It is currently unknown whether the two fires are connected.
