Traffic halted following car accident on Holtavörðuheiði, seven people involved
Traffic has been halted in both directions on Holtavörðuheiði due to a car accident. There were seven people in the cars involved, but further details on injuries are currently unavailable.
Two helicopters were called to the scene of the accident on Holtavörðuheiði earlier today. Traffic continues to be blocked in both directions while work on the scene is ongoing.
According to Pétur Björnsson, Chief of Police in Western Norðurland, the road will remain closed for several more hours while the Traffic Accident Investigation Committee conducts their work. Detours have been suggested via Bröttubrekku and Laxárdalsheiði.
The accident occurred when two cars collided. Seven people were in the vehicles but further information on injuries is not available at this time.
