Týr faces backlash over whaling practices, won’t perform at The Great Escape in UK
The Faroese band Týr understands the challenges associated with whaling. Lead singer Heri Joensen has publicly defended the Faroese tradition of sea mammal hunting.
He stated that it is extremely time-consuming and labor-intensive to combat misconceptions propagated by poorly informed animal rights organizations.
Despite Týr’s vocal support, the band won’t be performing at the internationally renowned music festival The Great Escape in the UK next year due to backlash over whaling practices in the Faroe Islands. The festival made this announcement late last night.
Last week, it was a significant milestone for the Faroese music scene when it was revealed that the Faroe Islands would be the focus country at The Great Escape next year, highlighting its emerging talent and cultural contributions.
