Aarhus Port signs lease with Mediterranean Shipping Company for new container terminal
Aarhus Port has secured a lease agreement with the global shipping company Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) to establish a new container terminal at the port. This development was announced in a press release from Aarhus Port.
MSC has been in competition with Maersk for the development of a new container terminal at Aarhus Port. For several years, Maersk’s port operator, APM Terminals, has been the sole operator at the port. However, this new agreement marks a significant change in the operational landscape. MSC’s terminal operator, Terminal Investment Limited (TiL), will be moving into the Omniterminal, which is nearing completion.
Thomas Haber Borch, CEO of Aarhus Port, highlighted the importance of this agreement, stating that it provides businesses with more opportunities to trade globally, enhances competitive strength, and reinforces the port’s role in ensuring a steady supply chain that benefits both the business sector and Denmark as a whole.
With this new agreement, Aarhus Port is set to host Denmark’s two largest container terminals, further solidifying its position as the nation’s largest commercial port.
