Search and Rescue Operations Underway for Man Reported to Have Fallen into Hlauptungufoss Waterfall
In a serious incident earlier today, authorities in South Iceland received reports that a man had fallen into Hlauptungufoss waterfall in the Brúará River shortly before 1:00 PM. Emergency rescue teams have been deployed, including two helicopters from the Icelandic Coast Guard.
Asgeir Erlendsson, spokesperson for the Coast Guard, stated that the police requested the assistance of the helicopter unit. One helicopter has already arrived at the scene, while the second helicopter, which includes medical personnel and divers from the capital area’s fire department, is en route.
Rescue teams are currently conducting a search for the individual at the incident site. Hlauptungufoss is located approximately 1.5 kilometers from Laugarvatnsvegur in South Iceland.
