The Safety and Chemicals Agency (Tukes) in Finland is initiating negotiations regarding cooperation that will affect its entire staff. This decision comes in response to a reduction in the agency’s funding within the national budget. The budget cuts are part of a cost-saving goal of approximately 22 percent of Tukes’ available funding by 2027. Currently, Tukes has expenditures of around 34.7 million euros this year.
The agency anticipates a potential decrease in its workforce by as many as 45 positions. “The need for savings forces us to reassess our statutory duties. We are concerned about the impact of these cuts on the overall safety of society,” stated Tukes Director General Kimmo Peltonen in a press release.
Currently, Tukes employs 300 individuals, with offices located in Helsinki, Tampere, and Rovaniemi.
