Coast Guard search flight finds no polar bears over Westfjords in Iceland

A search flight conducted by the Coast Guard over the Westfjords today did not spot any polar bears. The local police had requested an aerial survey of the area following the shooting of a polar bear on Höfðaströnd last weekend.

The flight covered Jökulfjörður, Hornstrandir, and Bjarnafirði, but found no signs of additional bears. Helgi Jensson, the police chief of the Westfjords, emphasized the importance of confirming the absence of more bears in the region.

The polar bear that was killed last Thursday was a young female.
