Police investigate suspected arson after fire in residential building in Parkano, Pirkanmaa

Police are investigating a suspected crime related to a fire that occurred over the weekend in a residential building in Parkano, Pirkanmaa. The fire, which took place in the Viinikanrinne area on Sunday night, caused damage to an apartment. One resident was injured in the incident and has been hospitalized, while no other individuals were harmed.

The fire was contained within the affected apartment, but it generated a significant amount of smoke that filled the building’s stairwell, posing risks to other residents. As a result, thirteen households remain evacuated.

Authorities have been able to preliminarily interview the resident of the burned apartment. Based on the investigation and initial testimonies, police suspect that the fire may have ignited as a consequence of the resident’s own actions. Currently, the matter is being examined as potential arson.
